Competition rules
These are the official rules ("the Rules") for “care4it: A global competition for schools to improve electrical energy efficiency”, a worldwide competition (“care4it”) for schools. care4it is organised and administered by the International Electrotechnical Commission ("IEC"), 3, rue de Varembé, 1211 Geneva 20, Switzerland.

1.  AWARDS

care4it is a worldwide competition open to School Students under the age of eighteen on the theme of "Electrical Energy Efficiency”. Each submission submitted to care4it in accordance with these Rules ("Submission") shall be eligible to compete for one of the prizes ("Award"): 1st Prize of US$ 10 000 (Ten Thousand United States Dollars); 2nd Prize of US$ 3 000 (Three Thousand United States Dollars); and 3rd Prize of US$ 2 000 (Two Thousand United States Dollars). The Awards will be made in United States dollars and no alternative currencies will be available.

2.  IEC PARTNER

For the purposes of the care4it competition, IEC is collaborating with the International Energy Agency ("IEA") in some aspects of care4it, as set out in these Rules.

3.  ELIGIBILITY

There is no entry fee for care4it.

Schools that register for care4it are referred to in these Rules as the "Schools". To be eligible, the school shall not be directly or indirectly controlled or managed by any company or other organisation the principal activities of which are commercial, hereinafter the "Schools".

By registering and making a Submission, the Schools agree to be bound by these Rules.
On registration, a Teacher must be designated, who shall be the person with whom IEC shall communicate in respect of all matters concerning care4it.

To be eligible to enter care4it, Students must not be over 18 years of age and may therefore be below the age of majority in which case they must be represented by the “Schools”. The Submission must be the work of these Student(s). As the age of some or all of the Students may be below the age of majority, Schools should ensure that they have the consent of the parents or legal guardians of any such Students to participate through the School in care4it.

Schools entering care4it are encouraged to form groups or teams of students to develop their proposals for Submission. Students in these groups shall not be older than 18 years of age.

Schools may be from any country in the world. Schools may submit only one Submission.

Directors, officers, trustees, employees, members, experts, contractors, advisors, and representatives of, and other persons affiliated with, IEC and/or IEA and their immediate family members, are not eligible to participate in care4it. An immediate family member is a spouse, parent, grandparent, or sibling of any person referred to in the previous sentence. Persons appointed as judges of the Submission and members of their immediate family, as defined above, are not eligible to participate in care4it.

IEC has the exclusive right to determine the eligibility of any Submission to participate in care4it.
